A mere 18 months after the last game, Strathendrick 1st XV took to the field again. A squad that mixed youthful exuberance with grizzled experience played a strong HJRFC team - and a great tussle resulted.
With 4 teenagers in the starting pack (3 playing their first senior game) the scrum had the upper hand for the majority of the game, which bodes very well for the future. Defence was strong, though Hills did find some easy metres with close pick and go’s, particularly on the blind side.
The scores were nearly level at half time, but Endrick pushed the gas button and more tries were scored in the second half.
Excellent to see fresh talent from recent school leavers from the past year take to the pitch including Gregor Duncan, Angus Robb, Fraser Thomson, Jake Houghton, Bruce Steel, Andy Spence and Tino Mudoti. Also boys who left 2 years ago including Jack Rice, Calum Robertson and Oscar Armstrong.
That aside, scoring 5 converted tries and only conceding 1 was a great return for the effort put in.
Scorers were:
James "Shammy" Ogilvy
Kyle Campbell
Ruairi Doyle
Robbie Willison
Stu MacGill
Conversions from Kyle (3) and Craig Mundell (2)
